MINI MINOR MK2

ITÁLIA

Sir Alec Issigonis’ plan was clear: to make a small vehicle but under no circumstances a “bubble car” – cheap, but often uncomfortable and with poor performance. The result was conceived, designed, and developed in only 2 years. On August 26, 1959, the new car was launched in two “versions”: Austin Seven and Morris Mini-Minor.

The only differences between the models were the radiator grille, the hubcaps, and the body color.

Instead of a rear-engine, like the compacts of that time, a transverse engine was used at the front, with a more bulky transmission tunnel. In just 3.05 meters, the Mini could fit four adults and an 848 cc 35 hp engine. Prices started from £ 497.

The most influential people of the time, from the Beatles to Princess Grace of Monaco, soon fell in love with the Mini.

At the end of the 1960s, more than two million units were on the streets, and annual sales reached 250,000 units.
